Anibal Quijano, "The good life is a sign of a radically new historical period"


"The good life and rights of Mother Earth: Progress and proposals to the world" was the theme of the central panel Friday at the Americas Social Forum.

There, representatives of ethnic groups in South America and renowned thinkers, raised the concept of "good living" as an alternative that comes from the people of this region and as a means for human subsistence, based on the ancient knowledge of respect for nature.

"The good life is a phenomenon whose interest is the signal that we have entered a radically new historical period, is a sign not only of resistance but has a character: it is a proposal as a process of genuine historical alternative in a crucial historical period of the world, "said on this concept the researcher and university teacher in Peru, Anibal Quijano.

noted that this proposal arises in Latin America because this region is the original space and the first time configuration of power, whose first victims were Indians. "The power of this emerging proposal was inaudible, now resurgent with the present crisis of the capitalist system."

He said that this "model of power" with colonialism introduced to represent the people of America racialized the first population in the world. "Here began the first resistance and here began what is now reborn as the proposal of the good life."
